Should You DIY Your Wedding Invitations?

One great way to save money is to create your own wedding invitations. I know a lot of brides who prefer to DIY many things for their wedding such as invites, save-the-date cards, wedding favors, etc. Are you thinking about heading in the same direction as well?

If your primary goal is to cut costs, then you’re right. Doing it yourself (DIY) can be much cheaper than hiring a professional printing company to do it. However, I suggest that you consider a few things first before taking on the task.

For instance, do you really have the time to do this project? Keep in mind that you’ll most probably be busy by the next few months. You will undoubtedly need to do several tasks such as making phone calls, gown fittings, cake tasting, among other errands, unless of course you have a professional wedding planner in charge of organizing the event.

You may also ask yourself, “Do I truly enjoy making crafts?” Will it be your first time to do such a project?Do you think you can get some people to help you out on this task? Will you and your future spouse work on this together or will you have to do everything yourself?

Another aspect that you should think about is the process of making DIY invitations. Do you plan to do everything from scratch including designing and drawing? Or do you plan on just printing the invitations from your own computer using a readily-available printable design online?

If you have no experience in designing and you don’t have much time, then I would recommend the second option. It would be much less complicated if you would look for printable wedding invitations online and just do the printing. Most online printable wedding invitations can be customized so all you have to do is insert the appropriate texts on the designated spaces, choose the font style and font size you want and you would have instantly created a unique invitation for your wedding. Needless to say, you will be able to choose the colors you want to match your motif.Image Source : 2bsquared designs

Once you have decided to DIY, the next step is to find a craft supplier where you can purchase all the materials you will need at a low price. If you will buy from a wholesale supplier, you should be able to save money. See to it that the cost of craft materials and ink cartridges will be considerably cheaper than ordering from a printing company.

Many professional printing companies offer bundled services or packages that include the designing, printing, and postal delivery services. If you will need to send a number of invitations via post mail, you might be able to save more if you choose this option.

Calculate the expenses and if it’s obvious that you won’t get that much savings at all, it might be better for you to simply order readily-made invitations. That way, you can save yourself the trouble of doing the project and you can use your time on the more important aspects of the preparation.
